The Aqua-Valley cluster is involved in the European AWARD project, and the EUROMED REUSE 2024 conference cycle on October 29-30 is an excellent opportunity to share the challenges of this project.

In the pilot site located in Bucharest, Romania, the AWARD project is testing how nature-based solutions can be used to treat and reuse urban stormwater collected from rooftops and streets. This pilot investigates simple, low-cost filtration methods inspired by natural processes, assessing their effectiveness against Romanian and European water quality standards. 

From Rainwater to Reuse: Testing Natural Filters 

On October 29, 2024, the Municipality of Solaro welcomed the European Horizon project AWARD with a public event dedicated to sustainable water management and climate resilience. Organized by the Metropolitan City of Milan and the Municipality of Solaro, the event spotlighted Solaro’s role as a pilot site within the EU-funded AWARD initiative, which promotes Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for urban environments.

On December 12, 2024, Paderno Dugnano hosted a public meeting to present its role in the European Horizon project AWARD. Organized by the Metropolitan City of Milan and the local municipality, the event showcased how the city is embracing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for water resilience.

On May 13, 2025, the Municipality of Paderno Dugnano hosted a Local Water Forum as part of the European AWARD project, focusing on sustainable water use and active citizen participation. Organized by the Metropolitan City of Milan, the event aligned with EU Green Deal goals for 2021–2027, promoting water conservation and circularity (reduce, recycle, reuse).
