On October 29, 2024, the Municipality of Solaro welcomed the European Horizon project AWARD with a public event dedicated to sustainable water management and climate resilience. Organized by the Metropolitan City of Milan and the Municipality of Solaro, the event spotlighted Solaro’s role as a pilot site within the EU-funded AWARD initiative, which promotes Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for urban environments.
A key highlight was the Via Berlinguer parking area, previously awarded Best LIFE Project in 2022, now serving again as a European model for green infrastructure. Experts presented climate and hydrogeological data, showing how Solaro’s frequent heavy rainfall is being mitigated through innovative design.
Participants also explored Citizen Science initiatives set to launch in 2025–2026, inviting locals to monitor biodiversity and urban heat island effects. The session closed with a networking happy hour, marking another step forward in Solaro’s green transformation.
