From Demonstration to Adoption
The AWARD Project supports the transfer and uptake of an innovative approach to integrating Alternative Water Resources (AWR) into territorial planning across Europe.
Developed and tested through four demonstration cases, this approach combines practical experience, stakeholder engagement and decision-support tools. It provides a structured framework that can be adapted to different environmental, regulatory and socio-economic contexts.
Why it matters
Water challenges are context-specific, but the way we address them can be shared.
AWARD helps stakeholders move from exploration to implementation by providing a clear, tested approach to assess the feasibility, relevance and integration of AWR solutions within their territories. This contributes to more resilient, sustainable and forward-looking water management strategies across Europe.
What AWARD offers
A structured and tested methodology
Developed and implemented in real-life demonstration sitesA Good Practice Guide
Bringing together lessons learned, practical recommendations and transfer criteriaA digital platform (DST-TSD)
Supporting knowledge sharing, stakeholder dialogue and informed decision-makingA European learning network
Connecting stakeholders, territories and expertise across sectors
From knowledge to action
AWARD goes beyond knowledge production by creating the conditions for real-world uptake.
Through a dedicated Working Group and interactive workshops, stakeholders can:
Follow the project’s progress,
Exchange with Demo Cases,
Explore how the approach can be adapted to their own context.
These activities foster collaboration, support peer learning and help turn insights into concrete projects.
Tools and resources for replication
To support implementation, AWARD is developing a set of practical resources, progressively made available:
Good Practice Guide – methodologies, lessons learned and transfer criteria
Visual materials – key concepts, approaches and outcomes
Digital tools – supporting assessment, planning and decision-making
Additional resources – policy briefs, workshop materials and methodological documents
These resources will be progressively made available on AWARD website
